Description: The photograph captures a memorial stained-glass window dedicated to nurse Mona M. Wilton, who trained at Warrnambool Hospital and tragically died in Singapore during World War II. This beautifully designed window was created through the efforts of the Past Trainees' Association, in particular Secretary Thelma Surridge, in collaboration with Mathieson Stained Glass Studios. It was installed by Brooks, Robinson Pty. Ltd. The window is situated in the stairwell of the Villier's Building, a space once used for trainee nurses' accommodation and lecture rooms. This building now serves as the Paediatrics Outpatient Clinic and Mental Health Department offices. The window, which faces south, is a striking tribute to Mona, featuring the Florence Nightingale Pledge and a dedication in her honor. The stained-glass window was unveiled on 28th March 1953 by Mrs. Wilma Young (née Oram), a friend and fellow nurse trainee who served as a wartime nurse. Her unveiling of the memorial added a deeply personal connection, marking the event as one of both historical and emotional significance. This intricate design not only highlights Mona’s memory but also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those in the nursing profession, particularly during times of war. The window stands as a symbol of both dedication and remembrance, a timeless piece of history within the hospital’s walls.
